Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated during a visit to Iraq that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran’s complete oversight and management for the next 30 days. According to Araghchi, Tehran bears sole responsibility for ensuring the safe operation and gradual restoration of the critical maritime route, emphasizing that no other country or external actor has authority over its administration during this period.
The foreign minister said Iran is working to remove existing obstacles and restore the strait to its full operational capacity. He linked the arrangement to a memorandum of understanding with the United States, asserting that Iran’s role and responsibilities are clearly defined within that framework. Araghchi warned that any unilateral intervention or independent action by outside powers could heighten regional tensions and delay efforts to fully reopen and stabilize the vital shipping corridor.
