Oil Prices Surge Above $79 as US-Iran Attacks Raise Fears Over Strait of Hormuz Supply Disruptions

Brent crude surged above $79 per barrel as escalating US-Iran attacks heightened fears of oil supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil prices rose sharply after renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran heightened concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes for energy exports.

Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil prices, climbed more than 4% to $79.17 per barrel, marking its highest level since June 22. The rally reflects growing fears among investors that continued military escalation could disrupt the flow of crude oil through the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to international markets.

The Strait of Hormuz is responsible for transporting roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil and significant volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Any threat to shipping in the region immediately increases market uncertainty, prompting traders to factor in the risk of supply shortages.

Financial markets reacted quickly as energy companies gained while transportation, airline, and manufacturing sectors faced concerns over rising operating costs. Higher crude prices also increase the likelihood of elevated gasoline and diesel prices, adding inflationary pressure on households and businesses worldwide.

Analysts warn that if military operations continue or shipping traffic becomes restricted, oil prices could experience additional volatility in the coming weeks. Governments and global energy markets are closely monitoring developments, as any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would have far-reaching consequences for international trade, supply chains, inflation, and economic growth.
