Twin earthquakes in northern Venezuela have killed 2,645 people, injured more than 12,600, and triggered one of the region’s largest international rescue operations in recent years.
Venezuela continues to confront the devastating aftermath of twin earthquakes that struck northern regions on June 24, with authorities confirming 2,645 deaths and 12,666 injuries. The disaster affected hundreds of buildings, including 189 structures that completely collapsed, leaving tens of thousands of residents displaced or in urgent need of assistance.
Government officials report that more than 6,400 people have been rescued and over 86,000 families have received aid. Relief operations have expanded significantly, with approximately 30,000 Venezuelan personnel working alongside more than 3,300 international rescue workers.
The crisis remains ongoing as the country has recorded 890 aftershocks since the initial quakes. According to geological data, the two powerful tremors, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck within seconds of each other in Yaracuy state, causing widespread destruction across coastal communities and critical infrastructure.
