Venezuela is confronting a devastating humanitarian emergency after two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the country within seconds of each other on Wednesday. According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the death toll has risen to 1,430, while 3,238 people have been injured and 3,142 families displaced from their homes.
The twin earthquakes, centered in Yaracuy near the cities of Yumare and San Felipe, unleashed widespread destruction across affected communities. Authorities have also recorded 430 aftershocks, complicating rescue efforts and increasing fears among survivors.
More than 30,000 emergency personnel—including military units, police officers, doctors, paramedics, and psychologists—have been deployed nationwide to assist with search, rescue, medical treatment, and humanitarian support. International solidarity has grown rapidly, with 21 countries sending over 2,000 relief workers, alongside specialized equipment, medical supplies, transport vehicles, and 96 search-and-rescue dogs.
