Germany Blames Trump for Strait of Hormuz Closure as Iran Reopens Crisis Over Regional Tensions

Germany blames Trump-era diplomacy for worsening Strait of Hormuz instability as Iran’s latest closure raises global energy and trade concerns.

Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has accused former US President Donald Trump of contributing to instability surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Speaking in an interview, he suggested that earlier US-Iran diplomatic arrangements under Trump played a role in the fragile situation that has now escalated again.

According to reports, Iran had previously agreed to reopen the strategic waterway under a preliminary accord involving Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, allowing shipping traffic to recover temporarily. However, Iran has now once again restricted passage through the Strait, citing escalating Israeli military actions in Lebanon as the reason for its decision.

Pistorius stressed that the safe and uninterrupted flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is crucial for Europe’s energy supply and broader economic stability. He warned that ongoing disruptions in the region could significantly impact global oil trade and worsen economic pressures worldwide.

The renewed closure highlights rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where conflicts involving Iran, Israel, and international powers continue to threaten one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints.
