Iran has reportedly announced a $30,000 bounty for anyone who kills or captures an American soldier, according to reporting by Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

Iranian army commander Major General Amir Hatami reportedly told reporters on Sunday that anyone who “kills or captures and hands over” an American aggressor would receive a reward equivalent to $30,000.

The announcement represents another sharp escalation in rhetoric surrounding the confrontation between Iran and the United States. A bounty targeting American military personnel could further increase concerns about the security of US forces operating in or around the Middle East.

The reported statement also comes against the backdrop of broader regional tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Any attempt to target or capture American personnel could carry significant consequences and potentially widen an already volatile conflict.

For Washington, Tehran and countries across the region, the announcement underscores how quickly military threats and rhetoric can translate into increased risks for troops and civilians.
