Fresh explosions were reported in southern Iran on Friday, with incidents occurring in Bushehr, Choghadak and Bandar Abbas, according to Iranian media outlets.
Bushehr Deputy Governor for Political and Security Affairs Ehsan Jahanian said the blast heard in Bushehr followed a response by Iranian air defence systems. He added that a military headquarters located on the outskirts of the city was struck by what he described as a projectile. Officials have not yet released details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency also reported explosions around Bushehr, home to Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant, as well as nearby Choghadak. Additional explosions were later reported by local residents in Bandar Abbas, one of Iran’s most strategically important port cities along the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, a US official told Al Jazeera that American forces have not conducted military strikes inside Iran during the past several hours. As of now, neither the White House nor the Pentagon has issued an official public statement regarding the reported explosions.
The absence of official confirmation from Washington, combined with Iran’s initial assessment, has left the exact cause of the incidents unclear. Analysts are closely monitoring the situation because Bushehr and Bandar Abbas are strategically significant due to their military facilities, energy infrastructure and proximity to major shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf.
Authorities are expected to provide additional information as investigations continue and more verified details become available.
