Yemen’s internationally recognized government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Saudi-led coalition and international partners to protect strategic maritime routes, strengthen regional security, and combat terrorism, smuggling, and organised crime.
Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said safeguarding vital waterways remains a national responsibility that is essential for Yemen, regional stability, and global peace. He accused the Houthi movement of obstructing opportunities for de-escalation and pursuing policies that serve Iran’s regional interests while prolonging Yemen’s conflict.
The latest statement comes amid growing tensions following Houthi threats to restrict Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait—one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints. In response, the Saudi-led coalition confirmed it had launched what it described as proportionate strikes against Houthi military targets in Al-Hudaydah province while reinforcing measures to protect commercial vessels transiting the region.
The Houthis condemned the coalition’s operations, describing them as attacks on civilian infrastructure and warning of further escalation. Their leadership vowed that continued military action would be met with stronger retaliation.
The renewed exchange of threats highlights the fragile security environment in the Red Sea, where any disruption to maritime traffic could have significant implications for global trade, energy supplies, and regional stability.
