Russia and Ukraine exchanged some of their most significant long-range attacks of the war, with Moscow claiming it intercepted more than 400 Ukrainian drones targeting the Moscow region in what officials described as one of the largest aerial assaults on the Russian capital in recent years.
According to Russian authorities, the overnight attack injured 10 people, including three Chinese nationals, and caused damage across the Podolsk, Domodedovo, and Odintsovo districts. Officials said drone debris damaged residential properties, ignited fires, and affected civilian infrastructure despite air defense systems intercepting dozens of incoming drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces targeted logistics facilities and an oil depot in the Moscow region, stating the strikes were aimed at infrastructure supporting Russia’s military operations. Ukrainian monitoring sources also reported attacks on major logistics centers and fuel storage facilities, although Russian officials confirmed only a fire at the Yuzhnye Vorota logistics complex.
Separately, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces destroyed 381 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, Crimea, and surrounding waters. Ukraine, meanwhile, reported that Russia launched missiles and nearly 100 drones overnight, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting most of the incoming unmanned aircraft.
In another major development, Russian authorities accused Ukraine of striking a passenger bus in the border city of Shebekino in the Belgorod region. Officials said five civilians, including a child, were killed and 23 others injured, calling the attack an assault on civilians. Ukraine has not publicly commented on the allegation.
Independent verification of battlefield claims from either side remains difficult due to the ongoing conflict. However, the latest attacks highlight the growing reach of long-range drone warfare and demonstrate that critical infrastructure and civilian areas far from the front lines continue to face increasing risks as the Russia-Ukraine war intensifies.
