A fresh Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon has cast doubt on the effectiveness of a newly announced framework agreement reached during US-sponsored negotiations in Washington. According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the drone targeted an intersection near Farah Amusement Park in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, with no immediate casualties reported.
In a separate development, Israeli forces reportedly advanced toward the outskirts of Kfar Shouba in the Hasbaya district while opening fire with medium and heavy machine guns. The incidents occurred only hours after Lebanon and Israel concluded a framework agreement aimed at facilitating the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory and expanding the deployment of the Lebanese army in southern regions.
The agreement represents the fifth round of US-mediated talks and seeks to reduce tensions along the border. However, continued military activity highlights the fragile nature of the understanding and raises questions about its immediate implementation.
Israel still maintains control over several areas in southern Lebanon, including territories occupied for decades and zones seized during the 2023–2024 conflict. Lebanese authorities report that since March 2026, ongoing hostilities have resulted in more than 4,200 deaths, over 12,000 injuries, and the displacement of more than one million people, underscoring the severe humanitarian impact of the conflict.
