An Israeli drone strike killed three people and injured another on Thursday after targeting a vehicle traveling between the towns of Zawtar and Mifdoun in Lebanon’s Nabatieh Governorate, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA). The attack occurred despite an ongoing ceasefire and renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions across the region.
In a separate incident, Israeli troops reportedly entered the southern town of Ain Arab alongside a D9 bulldozer, ordering residents to evacuate their homes by a specified deadline and warning that buildings would be demolished if the instructions were ignored. Lebanese media later reported that several houses were set on fire after residents had only recently returned following the reopening of access roads by the Lebanese army.
The latest developments highlight the fragile security situation in southern Lebanon, where cross-border hostilities and military operations continue despite international calls for restraint. Official Lebanese figures indicate that nearly 4,200 people have been killed, more than 12,000 injured, and over one million displaced since the escalation of fighting in recent years.
The incidents also come as regional diplomatic initiatives, including a US-Iran memorandum aimed at ending hostilities across multiple fronts, seek to establish a broader framework for lasting peace. Nevertheless, Israeli forces continue to maintain positions in parts of southern Lebanon, underscoring the challenges facing any durable ceasefire agreement.
