US Coast Guard Helicopter Crashes During Training Flight Near Sitka, Alaska – Four Crew Survive With Minor Injuries

A US Coast Guard helicopter crashed during a training flight near Sitka, Alaska, but all four crew members survived with minor injuries as an investigation is underway.

A United States Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crashed during a routine training mission near Sitka in southeastern Alaska on Monday morning, prompting an immediate emergency response. The aircraft went down near Harbor Mountain at approximately 10:07 a.m. local time while operating from the Coast Guard Air Station in Sitka.

Rescue teams from Sitka Fire and Rescue reached the crash site within an hour and transported all four crew members to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Officials confirmed that there were no fatalities and that the crew sustained only minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The Coast Guard stated that the cause of the crash remains under active investigation. Rear Adm. Bob Little, commander of the Coast Guard’s Arctic District, expressed relief at the outcome and praised the rapid coordination of emergency responders during the incident.

Authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the crash as recovery and investigation efforts proceed in the region.
