Two young men were killed in southern Lebanon after Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on a group near a road-clearing operation in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). The incident occurred in the Deir neighborhood, where a bulldozer was working to reopen a road when soldiers allegedly targeted a group of four people.

Initial reports said two individuals were injured and rushed to the Lebanese Popular Aid Hospital in Nabatieh. One of the wounded later died from his injuries, raising the death toll to two. Lebanese authorities have not released further details about the victims.

The shooting took place despite an existing ceasefire and comes at a sensitive diplomatic moment, as Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to hold their fifth round of direct negotiations in Washington. The talks are expected to address ongoing security concerns and efforts to reduce tensions along the shared border.

Cross-border violence has continued intermittently despite the ceasefire, with Lebanon reporting significant casualties since the escalation of hostilities. According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli military operations since March 2 have killed more than 4,100 people and injured over 12,000 others.
