Independent U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has strongly criticized Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir after the minister called for “all of Lebanon” to burn in response to the deaths of Israeli soldiers during fighting in southern Lebanon. Sanders described the remarks as those of “a war criminal,” arguing that such rhetoric is unacceptable from a senior government official and reiterating his opposition to continued U.S. military and financial support for Israel’s current government.
Ben-Gvir’s comments, posted on X, came amid renewed clashes along the Israel-Lebanon border and growing international concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict. Meanwhile, the United States has launched a real-time monitoring mechanism through CENTCOM to track hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, while Washington continues to support diplomatic negotiations involving Iran, Qatar, Pakistan, and other regional stakeholders aimed at preserving the recently negotiated ceasefire framework.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israel’s military campaign has resulted in more than 4,000 deaths, over 12,000 injuries, and the displacement of more than 1 million people, underscoring the severe humanitarian toll of the conflict. Sanders’ latest remarks add to growing international debate over the conduct of the war, civilian protection, and future U.S. policy toward Israel.
