Independent UK MP and former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has called on the British government to end military cooperation with Israel amid the continuing conflict in Gaza and attacks on Palestinians.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Corbyn called for Britain to stop allowing Israel to use British military facilities and to end the manufacture of military equipment associated with Israeli defense company Elbit Systems in the UK. He also called for an end to the supply of parts for F-35 fighter jets manufactured in Britain.
Corbyn said his objective was an end to the war and peace for Palestinians, while also expressing support for people in Israel who seek the same outcome. He rejected the idea that criticism of Israeli government policy should automatically be characterized as antisemitic.
The British lawmaker also urged greater international involvement, saying the United Nations should play a stronger role in supporting humanitarian aid reaching Gaza and the West Bank while addressing the broader issue of the Israeli occupation.
