Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the country’s supply of US-made Patriot interceptor missiles has been exhausted, leaving its air defense network under increasing strain as Russian missile attacks continue.
According to Zelenskyy, only one ballistic missile was intercepted during the latest wave of attacks because Ukraine no longer had sufficient Patriot interceptors available. He renewed calls for Western allies to urgently provide additional air defense systems and ammunition, emphasizing that strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities remains a priority as the conflict enters another intense phase.
In a separate development, Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom reported that the cargo vessel Yanina, operated by Fesco, sank in the Black Sea after what Russian officials described as a Ukrainian attack approximately 210 kilometers from the port of Novorossiysk. Russian authorities stated the vessel was transporting civilian cargo in international waters and confirmed that all 17 crew members were successfully rescued and are in satisfactory condition.
The reported maritime incident adds another layer of tension to the ongoing conflict, which has increasingly extended beyond land battles to include missile exchanges, drone operations, and naval activity across the Black Sea region.
Neither Ukraine’s claims regarding missile shortages nor Russia’s account of the cargo ship attack could be independently verified because of the continuing conflict and limited access to the affected areas. The developments nevertheless underscore the growing strategic challenges facing both sides as the war continues.
