At least seven people were killed and three others injured after two back-to-back remote-controlled bomb blasts targeted passenger vehicles in the Marka Bera area of Bannu’s Wazir subdivision in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. According to local police, the first explosion struck a passenger Datsun vehicle traveling toward Domel, killing five people instantly and completely destroying the vehicle.
As rescue efforts were underway and the injured were being transported to a hospital, a second explosion occurred nearly one kilometer away, targeting another vehicle and killing two more people. Rescue teams shifted the victims to nearby medical facilities while security forces quickly cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and launched a search operation amid fears of additional explosive devices.
Authorities described the attacks as remote-controlled terrorist bombings and initiated a full-scale investigation to identify those responsible. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq strongly condemned the attacks, expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism.
The latest attack highlights the deteriorating security situation in Bannu, which has witnessed a series of militant incidents in recent months, including attacks on police personnel, infrastructure, and civilians. Local tribal leaders have repeatedly urged the government to take decisive action against militant groups operating in the region.
